Getting your coins in front of buyers starts with great listings. Whether you’re selling during a Live Show or on the Marketplace, your photos and descriptions make or break the sale.

This guide covers everything you need to create listings that sell. You’ll learn photo requirements, condition descriptions, and how to handle variations efficiently.

Photo Requirements

KALEKT requires actual photos of your coins—no stock images allowed. Your listing needs at least one clear photo showing the entire coin. Blurry or misleading images get listings removed.

Basic Requirements

  1. Actual coin photos only (no stock images)
  2. Minimum one photo per listing
  3. Clear view of entire coin
  4. No misleading editing or filters

Exception: Stock images are acceptable for brand-new, sealed products like mint rolls or proof sets. Used, damaged, or raw coins must show actual photos.

You own the photos you upload. Don’t use images from other sellers or websites. KALEKT removes listings that violate intellectual property rights.

Taking Quality Photos

Your photos sell your coins. Poor photos mean poor prices—or no sales at all.

Equipment and Setup

You don’t need expensive gear. Your smartphone works fine with proper technique:

  1. Clean your camera lens
  2. Use natural light or bright white LED
  3. Place coins on neutral backgrounds (white or black)
  4. Keep camera parallel to coin surface
  5. Take photos of both sides

Pro tip: Shoot near a window during daytime. Natural light reveals true colors and luster better than most artificial lighting.

Angles and Details

Standard photos for every listing:

  1. Obverse (front) straight-on
  2. Reverse (back) straight-on
  3. Angled shot showing luster
  4. Edge view for reeded coins
  5. Close-ups of errors or damage

Buyers want to see what they’re buying. Show everything—including flaws.

Writing Condition Notes

Accurate condition notes build trust. Describe what buyers will receive, not what you wish they’d receive.

Essential Information

Every listing needs:

  1. Grade (if slabbed) or estimated grade
  2. Grading service (PCGS, NGC, etc.)
  3. Visible defects or problems
  4. Cleaning or damage history
  5. Special attributes (errors, varieties)

Be specific. “Some wear” means nothing. “Liberty’s hair shows wear above ear” tells buyers exactly what to expect.

Condition Vocabulary

Use standard numismatic terms:

For wear: Light wear, heavy wear, worn smooth

For damage: Scratch, ding, rim bump, environmental damage

For surfaces: Hairlines, contact marks, spots, toning

For problems: Cleaned, polished, whizzed, altered

Example description: “1921-D Morgan Dollar. Raw. VF-30 estimate. Light wear on Liberty’s cheek and eagle’s breast. Small rim ding at 3 o’clock. Natural gray toning.”

Skip the fluff. Buyers want facts, not stories about your grandfather’s collection.

Listing Variations

Selling multiple similar coins? KALEKT’s variation feature saves time while keeping listings organized.

When to Use Variations

Perfect for:

  1. Same coin, different dates
  2. Same type, different grades
  3. Same series, different mint marks
  4. Bulk lots with slight differences

Don’t use variations for completely different coins. Each coin type needs its own listing.

Creating Variations

For Live Shows:

Add your base coin. Tap “Add Variation.” Change only the varying details (date, mint mark, grade). Keep photos specific to each variation.

For Marketplace:

Create your first listing completely. Select “Add Variation” before publishing. Modify details for each variant. Set individual prices and quantities.

Buyers see all variations in one listing. They select their preferred option before purchasing.

Using AI Scanner for Listings

KALEKT’s AI scanner speeds up listing creation. Here’s how to maximize this feature.

Scanning Your Coins

  1. Tap the camera icon in listing creation
  2. Center coin in frame with good lighting
  3. Let AI identify the coin
  4. Review all suggested details
  5. Edit anything incorrect
  6. Add your condition notes

Important: AI-filled details are suggestions. You’re responsible for accuracy. Always verify before publishing.

Scanner Best Practices

The AI works best with:

  1. Common US coins (Morgan Dollars, Walking Liberty Halves)
  2. Clear, uncrowded photos
  3. Proper lighting (no glare)
  4. One coin at a time

For world coins or ancients, expect to add more details manually. The AI improves with common dates and types.

Remember: Pricing data comes from third-party sources. Values are informational and change constantly. Set your own prices based on current market conditions.

Optimizing for Live Shows vs Marketplace

Where you sell affects how you list.

Live Show Listings

Speed matters during Live Shows. Prepare listings ahead:

  1. Pre-load all photos
  2. Write descriptions in advance
  3. Use Temporary Listing for basic items
  4. Save Quality Listings for premium coins
  5. Group similar coins together

Live buyers make quick decisions. Your photos must tell the story instantly.

Marketplace Listings

Marketplace buyers browse leisurely. Give them details:

  1. Include 5+ photos per coin
  2. Write comprehensive descriptions
  3. List relevant reference numbers
  4. Mention CAC approval if applicable
  5. State your return policy clearly

These buyers compare options. Detailed listings win over sparse ones every time.

Category Selection and Keywords

Proper categorization helps buyers find your coins. Wrong categories mean lost sales.

Choosing Categories

KALEKT’s categories include:

  1. US Coins (by denomination and era)
  2. World Coins (by country)
  3. Bullion (by metal type)
  4. Supplies and accessories
  5. Currency

Place coins in their most specific category. A Morgan Dollar belongs in US Coins > Dollars > Morgan, not just “US Coins.”

Title Best Practices

Front-load important details:

Good: “1885-CC Morgan Dollar MS-63 PCGS – Carson City”

Bad: “Beautiful old silver dollar coin from grandpa’s collection”

Include:

  1. Year and mint mark
  2. Denomination
  3. Grade (if graded)
  4. Grading service
  5. Key variety info

Skip keywords like “rare” or “L@@K” that add no value. KALEKT removes keyword-stuffed listings.

Pricing Your Listings

Price competitively or watch your coins sit unsold.

Research Current Values

Before pricing:

  1. Check KALEKT completed sales
  2. Review PCGS/NGC price guides
  3. Monitor current spot prices for bullion
  4. Consider CAC premiums if applicable
  5. Factor in KALEKT fees

Price 5-10% below major dealers for faster sales. Overpriced coins become permanent inventory.

Auction vs Buy Now

Use Auction when:

  1. Coin has strong demand
  2. You’re unsure of value
  3. Multiple interested buyers exist
  4. Creating excitement in Live Shows

Use Buy Now when:

  1. You need quick cash
  2. Pricing is well-established
  3. Selling common dates
  4. Moving bulk inventory

Mix both formats in Live Shows. Auctions create energy; Buy Now provides instant gratification.

Common Listing Mistakes

Avoid these seller pitfalls:

Photo Problems

  1. Using others’ photos (copyright violation)
  2. Blurry or dark images
  3. Missing reverse photos
  4. Deceptive angles hiding damage
  5. Stock photos for used coins

Description Issues

  1. Vague condition statements
  2. Missing important details
  3. Keyword stuffing
  4. Incorrect categories
  5. No mention of problems

Pricing Errors

  1. Obviously unreasonable prices
  2. Not updating for market changes
  3. Forgetting to account for fees
  4. Pricing errors (missing decimals)

KALEKT removes problematic listings. Multiple violations risk account suspension.
